New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other opposition party leaders have decided to unite at Jantar Mantar on Friday in solidarity with farmers protesting against the contentious farm laws. 


Leaders of as many as 14 opposition parties earlier today met in Parliament house at 10 AM and decided to extend their support to the farmers' agitation, participate in the 'Kisan Sansad' and sit in solidarity with them. These include Indian National Congress, trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena, DMK, NCP, RJD, SP, CPIM, CPI, IUML, RSP, NC, LJD. 


Speaking to news agency ANI, leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharg said that "To support farmers’ demand for repeal of farm laws, all opposition parties will go to Jantar Mantar today, Rahul Gandhi will also join in." 



The leaders traveled from Parliament at 12.30 PM in a bus to participate in the Kisan Sansad at Jantar Mantar.  On reaching the protest site, the opposition leaders raised slogans with a placard 'Save Farmers, Save India'.  


Those who joined the protest include Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Ambika Soni, Gaurav Gogoi; Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut; RJD's Manoj Jha; DMK's T Siva and others. However, the Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and BSP didn't take part in today's protest. 


The farmers under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha were given special permission to protest at Jantar Mantar during the Monsoon Session. They have been allowed to protest at the site on weekdays till August 9.
