New Delhi: A pall of gloom descended upon Chalageri in Karnataka after news of the death of Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagoudar in Ukriane's Kharkiv was reported. A large number of people thronged Naveen's house to console the bereaved family.
Naveen was killed when he stepped out of his bunker to exchange currency and fetch some food amid heavy shelling by Russian forces.
It was just two days ago that Naveen had a conversation with his father through a video call. A video of Naveen speaking with his father has now surfaced.
Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority Commissioner Dr Manoj Rajan said Naveen had gone to a nearby store when he was killed in shelling.

According to reports, an administrative building at Central Quayer in Kharkiv was attacked by Russia. Naveen was killed in the same attack.
Naveen's father had told his son during the conversation to take care of himself and stay there together. He told his son that efforts were being made by the Indian Embassy to bring him back.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) tweeted the information about Naveen's death.
“With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.
Naveen was studying MBBS in Ukraine and he was in the fourth year, Naveen's coordinator told ABP News. Naveen was a resident of Chalegeri in Karnataka.

On Tuesday, Naveen's father Gyanagoudar told PTI that no one from the Indian embassy reached out to the students stuck in Kharkiv.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai called up Gyanagoudar and expressed his sorrow. Bommai assured Gyanagoudar he would make every effort to bring back his son's body to India.
