NEW DELHI: Former president and veteran Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee will address newly recruited RSS workers at their graduation ceremony in Nagpur next month.

The RSS has invited Mukherjee and he has given his consent to participate in the programme, RSS' Akhil Bhartiya Prachar Pramukh Arun Kumar told PTI.

We have invited the former President of India and it is his greatness that he has given his consent for participating in the programme, Kumar said.

The event is scheduled to be held at the headquarters of the organisation June 7.

"Mukherjee's acceptance to attend RSS event in Nagpur sends a message to the country that on vital issues there should be dialogue and adversaries are not enemies. The questions raised on RSS-Hindutva is being answered by his acceptance of invitation," RSS thinker Rakesh Sinha told ANI.

Mukherjee will be the chief guest at the valedictory session of the Tritiya Varsh Varg' or the Third Year Course organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in June this year.

Earlier this year, Mukherjee had also invited top Sangh leaders at the launch of the Pranab Mukherjee Foundation here.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had also called on Mukherjee during the last days of his tenure as President.

Mukherjee had also invited RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for lunch at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised Mukherjee calling him a “father figure” on many occasions.
