New Delhi: The ‘At Home’ Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Republic Day, January 26 has been cancelled in view of the COVID-19 situation.
Consequently, the ‘At Home’ Reception at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata had been cancelled.
The reception at Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu has been postponed. An official statement informs that the ceremony will be held in due course once the situation improves.
Last year, President Ram Nath Kovind hosted the ‘At Home’ reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other Cabinet Ministers were also present on the occasion.
The decision comes as the active cases in India climbed to 22,49,335, the highest in 241 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.
India logged 3,06,064 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,95,43,328,
The death toll climbed to 4,89,848 with 439 fresh fatalities.
The active cases comprise 5.69 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate decreased to 93.07 per cent, the ministry stated.
An increase of 62,130 cases was recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The number of people who recovered from the infection surged to 3,68,04,145.
