New Delhi: Bharat Biotech on Tuesday said it had received several reports that children in the 15-18 age group were being administered a different Covid-19 vaccine other than Covaxin.

In a statement, the Hyderabd-based Bharat Biotech said, "Requesting the health workers to be vigilant and ensure that only Covaxin is administered to that particular age group."

Bharat Biotech said Covaxin was the only approved Covid vaccine to be given to children in the 15-18 age group.

"We have received several additional reports of individuals in the 15-18 year age group being administered unapproved Covid-19 vaccines," the company said.

"Covaxin received approval based on thorough clinical trial evaluation for safety and immunogenicity in the 2-18 years age group," Bharat Biotech said.

The Covid vaccine option for children in the age group of 15-18 years is Covaxin only, the government has said.

On Tuesday, Union Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted that more than 50 per cent of India's population in the 15-18 age group had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
