New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not stopped printing 2,000-rupee notes, Sources told ABP News on Wednesday.

Certain media reports claimed that the RBI had stopped printing Rs 2,000 notes five months ago and have increased production of Rs 200 notes which are yet to reach banks.

One of the reports said the new batches of 500-rupee notes are expected to ease the shortage of 2,000-rupee notes in circulation.

Sources said there was a possibility that banks are dispensing fewer amounts of Rs 2,000 notes despite the high demand in the market. But the printing has not been halted.  There could be a high dispensing of Rs 500 notes from RBI in view of the demand.

The issue was raised by Congress and Samajwadi Party members in the Rajya Sabha seeking a reply from the Centre on whether RBI has stopped printing the high-value note.
