BJP leader and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday said that US campuses aren't safe anymore and urged the US envoy to present a transparent disclosure of the US universities.

Chandrasekhar made the remark in response to US Ambassador Eric Garcetti, who in a post on X, urged people to join the US education fair being held across India this month.

The BJP leader said that being a US university graduate himself, he can testify to some excellent universities in the US, but added that there has been recent violence and targetted intimidation in US campuses.

"Dear Ambassador @USAmbIndia - as you invite our Young Indians to study in the US. I Am also US Uni graduate and can testify to some excellent Univs in the US. But as recent violence and targetted intimidation on US campuses hv shown, US campuses arent the same safe centers of learning anymore and many Indian parents had to rush their children back to India," Chandrasekhar said.

"So fairs are good but pls do hv transparent disclosures of campus safety as well," he added.

The BJP leader was referring to the campus protests earlier in May where several students protested in support of Palestinians and against the violence in the Gaza war.

The US Ambassador, while inviting students to the US University Fair, said, "Students and parents, I’m thrilled to invite you to our #EducationUSA Fairs, which are taking place all over India this month. This is your chance to meet representatives from more than 80 U.S. universities and learn about admissions, scholarships and much more."

Demonstrators had set up encampments in more than 80 campuses across the US demanding that academic institutions sever financial ties with Israel or firms connected to the Israeli military’s war in Gaza.
