The state meteorological centre (MeT) of Rajasthan on Friday issued a heatwave warning in several parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions for the next two days. It said the maximum temperature could soar above 45 degrees Celsius in the coming days, PTI reported.
According to the Jaipur MeT office, the maximum temperature breached 44 degrees Celsius at some locations in the Jodhpur division on Thursday. It is expected to soar by another 1-2 degrees in the next 48 hours.
The scorching heat has already affected normal life in some areas of the state, with people experiencing heat-stroke symptoms, said the Met, as reported by news agency PTI.
A weather official said almost all parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner in western Rajasthan are likely to reel under a heat wave from May 12 to 13. According to the official, many parts of eastern Rajasthan could also see the mercury hovering between 42 to 44 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
However, Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions will get some respite from heat wave conditions from Monday, with the development of a new western disturbance in the region.
The Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions along with the Shekhawati region are likely to experience strong thunderstorms along with gusty winds during the afternoon from May 13 to 14 due to the western disturbance, as reported by PTI.

The MeT official also said an increase in thunderstorms and rainfall on May 15 and 16 could lead to a dip of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the mercury, which will bring respite to the residents of western Rajasthan.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Barmer remained the hottest place on Thursday in Rajasthan with a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius.
It said the mercury touched 44.1 degrees Celsius in Jaisalmer and 44 degrees Celsius in Jalore. Phalodi recorded a high of 43.6 degrees Celsius, and Tonk-Bikaner sizzled under 43.5 degrees Celsius.
