The Rajasthan government suspended Udaipur Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Meena on Friday night, news agency PTI reported.

There is no explanation stated in the suspension order issued by Joint Secretary (Police) of the home department Jagveer Singh.

However, it is believed that he was suspended for negligience in the case of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, who was brutally killed on Tuesday after being viciously threatened by two men carrying cleavers over a contentious post, PTI reported.

On Thursday night, the superintendent of police for the Udaipur district and the Udaipur Range were transferred.

Udaipur Tailor Murder Case

The tailor was hacked to death by two men in broad daylight inside his shop in Udaipur’s Bhootmahal area earlier on Tuesday.

The tailor had earlier published a social media post supporting now suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who had invited widespread wrath for her remarks against the Prophet.

Udaipur Police had earlier come under strong criticism for not providing security to the murdered tailor.

Earlier on Thursday night, two accused arrested in connection with this case from Bhim in Rajsamand district were brought to Ajmer’s high-security jail.

The duo, who identified themselves as Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, had sparked outrage in the country after posting a video on social media boasting about the “beheading”.

Earlier on Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation of the tailor’s brutal murder.

The local markets in the area were shut following the murder as the traders demanded justice for the victim.
