New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kirodi Lal Meena has compared Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to Mughal ruler Aurangzeb over the demolition of a 300-year-old Shiva temple during an anti-encroachment drive in Alwar district.
The BJP MP earlier on Friday alleged that the grand old party has a mentality of appeasement and has been doing that since the beginning, ANI reported.
“Gehlot government ruthlessly demolished an old temple just like Aurangzeb did, it’s a total injustice,” he said.
Meena also said that he has spoken to the district administration officials regarding the demolition.
“We demanded that all the three temples that have been demolished should be redeveloped and the administration has agreed to it. We also demanded to register a case against officials who did this,” he added.
Meanwhile, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also lambasted the Congress government over temple demolition in Alwar.
“The demolition of an ancient temple by the Congress government is not correct,” ANI reported Sawant as saying.
He further said that his government will try to reconstruct and restore the temples vandalised by the Portuguese in Goa.
“We will protect the cultural heritage of the state. Rs 20 crore (has been) earmarked for this,” he added.
Alwar District Collector Nakate Shivprasad Madan had earlier said that the proposal to demolition the illegal structure was passed by the board of the Rajgarh municipal council and the action was taken according to the decision of the local administration.
“In the meeting of the board headed by the chairman, a proposal to remove encroachment was passed. The Executive Officer issued notices and then the action of demolition was done,” he said.
