Railway Ticket Refund Rules: Railways play a very important role in the lives of the common people of India. We use trains as a mode of commute quite often. However, a number of times we change our plans which cause us to cancel our tickets. Many people are unaware of how much does Railway charges as a cancellation fee. Here are some details about Indian Railway's cancellation policy.


Rules for RAC and Waiting list seat cancellation:
You can now cancel your RAC and Waiting List tickets 30 minutes before departure if you want to. While Indian Railways charges Rs 60 as cancellation fee for sleeper class, they charge Rs. 65 for cancellation of AC class seat. The remaining amount after the cancellation fee is refunded to you.


Rules for cancelling a confirmed ticket:
Passengers need to take care of some things in the event where they need to cancel a confirmed ticket. According to regulations set up by Indian Railways, a time limit needs to be followed if you want to cancel a confirmed ticket. You'll have to pay a lower cancellation charge, provided you cancel the ticket within the stipulated time. Also, you wouldn't be able to get any refund if you cancel your ticket four hours before departure.  


Cancellation rule for Confirmed General (2S) Class Seat:
Confirmed General class passengers would have to pay Rs. 60 as cancellation fee per person and tickets can be cancelled with refund till 48 hours before departure.  


Cancellation rule for Confirmed Sleeper Class Seat:
Sleeper class passengers would have to pay Rs. 180 as cancellation fee for a confirmed seat cancellation, which could be done with a refund only up to four hours before departure.


Cancellation rule for Confirmed AC Chair Car Seat:
If a person has made a confirmed reservation in AC Chair Car, First AC, and Executive Class and he cancels the ticket, he would be charged Rs. 240 plus GST as cancellation fee. Notably, GST is not charged for sleeper class and general class cancellations.
