New Delhi: Reports are doing the rounds in political circles that Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi would be appointed as party president by the end of June. Sonia Gandhi, who is on a two-day tour to her parliamentary constituency Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, refused to make a comment on the issue. However, Congress leaders are upbeat about the rumours.

Congress leader Sushmita Dev on Wednesday said the grand old party is working under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul, and if there happens something about the elevation, the party would definitely speak about it.

Expressing her delight over news, All India Mahila Congress president Shobha Oza said the entire party was waiting for this moment.

"The entire Congress has been waiting for this and we are very happy that Rahul Gandhi is going to become the party president," Oza told ANI.
She further stated that Rahul Gandhi has been working hard for revival of the Congress from the streets to Parliament.

Former Punjab chief minister and senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh on his part expressed hope that Rahul would do a good job as the party president.
"It is high time that the youngsters should be given the opportunities. It is for Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has served for 20 years, to take a call on her successor," he added.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi will soon be crowned as the Congress president.

The grand old party is also likely to make major changes in senior positions following a series of defeats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and the recent elections in various states of the country.
