Rahul Gandhi Reveals He Is 'Not A Big Fan' Of 10, Janpath Bungalow. Here's Why

In the Diwali video, Rahul Gandhi can be seen helping and interacting with the paint job workers at his residence in 10, Janpath. He also visited a family of potters in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi released a video on Friday on the occassion of Diwali. The video 'Unsung Diwali Heroes', which also features his nephew Raihan Rajiv Vadra, was shot at his residence 10 Janpath in Lutyens' Delhi. In the video, Gandhi, who has spent a considerable amount of time at the Janpath bungalow was heard telling his nephew that he is not a big fan of the house.

Elaborating on the reason behind this, he said that his father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi died while he was living in the 10, Janpath house. "My father died (while he was living) here, so I am not a big fan of this house," Gandhi tells his nephew Raihan Rajiv Vadra, while working with paint job workers at the 10, Janpath residence ahead of Diwali.

Rajiv Gandhi was alloted the bungalow in 1990. He resided at 10, Janpath when he was assassinated in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991. Following Rajiv Gandhi's death, the Janpath bungalow had been allocated in the name of his wife Sonia Gandhi, who has been living there since 1990.

Rahul Gandhi resided in 12, Tughlaq Lane ever since he became an MP. However, after his disqualification from the Lok Sabha last year, he vacated that house following his conviction in a defamation case.Thereafter, Gandhi moved back into the 10, Janpath residence and has been living with his mother Sonia Gandhi even after his disqualification was revoked. He did not move out even after his new term as the Lok Sabha MP from Rae Bareli began. 

In the Diwali video, Rahul Gandhi can be seen interacting with and helping the paint job workers working at his Janpath residence. He also visited a family of potters in west Delhi's Uttam Nagar.

He can be seen explaining to his nephew how people who brighten Diwali are often overlooked and gow their skills and hard work go unnoticed. The Congress leader shared the 9-minute video on his social media account on X with the caption:"A Diwali with the people whose hardwork helps India shine".

Rahul Gandhi also recalled celebrating Diwali as a child when his nephew asked him about what he would do in school during the festival. "We used to shoot rockets at each other, throw bombs at each other, literally. I was the mastermind of that stuff," he recalled.
