New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday morning met convicted RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who was admitted at the capital's AIIMS hospital. The Congress chief called on the RJD supremo to enquire about the latter's health before he was discharged this afternoon.

Prasad was lodged in Ranchi's Birsa Munda Central Jail since December 23 after being convicted in the Deoghar treasury case. On March 29 he was allowed to undertake specialised treatment by the special CBI court at AIIMS, Delhi. Earlier he was admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science in Ranchi on March 17 after he complained of uneasiness at Birsa Munda jail. A RIMS medical board had decided to refer him to AIIMS.

Doctors at AIIMS issued a fitness certificate saying he is healthy enough to return to jail. The Bihar leader protested his discharge from AIIMS alleging it was a conspiracy to deteriorate his health. He will be taken to the Jharkhand jail. Before that he wrote a letter to AIIMS Director questioning his early discharge. "Why am I being discharged when I have not completely recovered? This is being done under some political pressure. If something happens to me, AIIMS would be responsible for it."

His anger was quite evident as he got into an argument with a policeman before entering the railway station. (WATCH BELOW)

Meanwhile, his son Tej Pratap Yadav has started distributing the invitation cards for his wedding in May with Aishwarya Rai, the granddaughter of former Bihar chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai.  The couple got engaged at Hotel Maurya in Patna on April 18.  It is not known whether Lalu will be allowed to attend the wedding or not.
