New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday trained guns at the Narendra Modi-led Union government as he alleged the onset of dictatorship in the country.
The Wayanad MP addressed a press conference at the AICC headquarters in Delhi as the Congress began its nationwide protests against inflation and GST on essential items.

- In an apparent reference to Prime Minister Modi, Rahul Gandhi said: "Hitler had also won elections, he too used to win elections. How did he use to do it? He had control of all of Germany's institutions...Give me the entire system, then I will show you how elections are won."
- Targeting Nirmala Sithraman over the state of Indian economy, the Wayanad MP remarked, "I think the macroeconomic fundamentals that she is talking about is something else. I don't think the Finance Minister has any understanding of what is going on in the economy of India, zero understanding. She is there as a mouthpiece."
"What we are witnessing is the death of democracy. That is what India is witnessing. What India has built brick by brick, starting almost a century ago, is basically being destroyed in front of your eyes," Rahul Gandhi said in the presser.
"All of you know it, all of India knows it. Anybody who stands against this idea of the onset of dictatorship, does not matter who he is, where he comes from, which state, which religion, male or female, that person is viciously attacked, put in jail, arrested, beaten up," he added.
- Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government is being run to protect the interests of four-five people and this "dictatorship" is being run in the interest of "two-three big business people by two people". "Idea is, people's issues - whether price rise, unemployment, violence in society - must not be raised. That's sole agenda of government and government is being run to protect the interest of 4-5 people and this dictatorship is being run in the interest of 2-3 big business people by 2 people," he said.

To another question, he said, "They attack the Gandhi family because we fight for an ideology and there are crores of people like us. We fight for democracy, for communal harmony and have been fighting for years. Only I did not do this. This has being done for years, my family members have given their lives."
Congress MPs in Parliament today wore black clothes in protest against inflation and unemployment.
The party works will also 'gherao' Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence as part of their protest.
In the presser, Rahul Gandhi asserted, "When India is divided and Hindus-Muslims are made to fight then we feel pained, when someone is assaulted for being Dalit, we are pained, when a woman is beaten up, we are pained that is why we fight. This is not a family, this is an ideology."
In response to this, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi remarked: "He (Rahul Gandhi) is not a descendant of Mahatma Gandhi. He is a 'nakli' (fake) Gandhi. And it is a fake ideology", news agency ANI reported.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs of Congress, including Rahul, RS LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh, and Shashi Tharoor, were detained as the party began a "Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan" (march to Rashtrapati Bhavan) from Parliament to register their protest.
Delhi Police detained Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra after she jumped over a police barricade placed near AICC headquarters.
In all capital cities, the state units have organised a gherao of Raj Bhavans in which MLAs, MLCs, former MPs, and senior leaders are participating with party workers.
