New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party trained guns against Congress over the latter staging ‘satyagraha’ protesting against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha saying the party was protesting against the court after being convicted.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was convicted on Thursday by a Surat court in a 2019 defamation case with the court sentencing the party leader to 2-year imprisonment. He was disqualified from the Lok Sabha the next day.
To protest against the disqualification, the Congress party staged a day-long ‘satyagraha’ in front of Gandhi statues at all states and district headquarters.
Meanwhile, the BJP held a press conference in the national capital and targeted Congress over the protest saying it was being done for a “personal reason.”
“Gandhiji did his first Satyagraha for a social cause. Whereas here they are seen doing it against the court after being convicted for their own personal reasons,” said BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Sunday.
“Congress party considers themselves superior to the judicial jurisprudence of the court. And they will decide in what manner and on what basis the court should give its verdict,” he added.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Trivedi said, “When you speak against India, talk about this kind of hatred against backward society and then when you are punished by the court and then when you try to make political allegations on it, I find it impudent and shameless. Both are visible.”
