All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that former BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma will be projected as a big leader and can also become a contender for Delhi CM’s post, news agency ANI reported. Owaisi has also demanded Sharma’s arrest for her comments against Prophet Muhammad saying that action should be taken against her according to the law.
"Nupur Sharma should be arrested and action should be taken against her according to the law of India. We wanted action as per the Constitution. I know that Nupur Sharma will be made a big leader in the coming six-seven months. It is also possible that Nupur Sharma will be made the Delhi CM candidate," Owaisi was quoted as saying by ANI.
He also accused BJP of safeguarding Sharma and asked the Telangana CM to arrest her and bring her there.
"BJP is safeguarding Nupur Sharma and we are requesting the PM and he doesn't speak a word. AIMIM has lodged a complaint and an FIR has been registered. I also wanted to ask the CP and CM of this state to send police to Delhi and bring Mohatarama (Sister Nupur Sharma). You should bring her (Nupur Sharma)," Owaisi said.
Owaisi further targeted the UP government for its demolition drive in which activist Aafreen Fatima’s house was razed.
"In Allahabad, Prayagraj Afreen Fatima's residence was demolished, why did you demolish? Because her father organised protest. Principles of natural justice are the basic structure of the Constitution. Who will decide? The court will decide if he organised or not. The court will do justice and the court will not punish his wife and children,” Owaisi said.
Earlier, Maharashtra Congress leader Naseem Khan also sought immediate arrest of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal.
BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s comments on Prophet Muhammad last month caused violent protests in the country killing two people in Ranchi.
Post her comment, India garnered sharp criticism from the Gulf countries as well resulting in the suspension of Sharma and expulsion of BJP leader Naveen Kumar Jindal.
