Kathmandu [Nepal], Aug 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented traditional gifts from India's North-Eastern states to leaders of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
The gifts presented to BIMSTEC leaders by Prime Minister Modi comprise of stoles and shawls depicting traditional motifs from North-Eastern states and Kantha embroidery of West Bengal. These presents from India's North-Eastern states are made from golden Muga silk, Eri silk, and cotton.
As per sources, the gifts highlight development potential of the North-East region through enhanced connectivity, trade and commerce in the BIMSTEC region.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also met with the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina on the sidelines of BIMSTEC.
The BIMSTEC is an international organisation consisting of seven nations of South Asia and South East Asia, namely Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan, and Nepal. (ANI)
