PM Narendra Modi's brother Prahlad Modi, was injured in a car accident in Karnataka's Mysuru on Tuesday. Prahlad Modi was on his way to Bandipur with his family, reported news agency IANS.

According to media reports, Prahlad Modi's son Mehul, daughter-in-law, and grandson Menath, were with him at the time of the accident. NDTV reported they were travelling to Bandipura, along with his convoy, in a Mercedes-Benz SUV when it hit a divider around 2 pm.

According to Times Now, Prahlad Modi and his family sustained injuries and they were admitted to JSS Hospital. His driver Satyanarayan also sustained injuries in the accident, which occurred in an area called Kadkolla. Prahlad Modi is reported to be out of danger.

A doctor at the hospital said, "All were stable with minor injuries when they came. They were immediately attended to and are now out of danger without any major bleeding. X-rays and CT scans have been done... Only the child has suffered a small fracture on left leg tibia, but it is not major and is being treated."

Member of Parliament from Mysuru-Kodagu constituency Pratap Simha, who visited the hospital, said the family that was on a private visit had sustained "minor" injuries, and the child has suffered a minor fracture, and is undergoing treatment.

Speaking to reporters he said, "Prahlad Modi has suffered a minor scratch on his face nothing other than that, there is nothing to worry, he is fine and talking. His son too has suffered minor injuries and is doing fine. His daughter-in-law has suffered a minor cut on her eyebrow on one side, she is being treated. All are fine and conscious. The grandchild's bone below the left knee is fractured, but is stable."

Prahlad Modi's daughter was in another car and she is fine. Simha said, "For observation, they will be in the Hospital today. With the grace of goddess Chamundeshwari all are doing fine." According to Simha, the incident might have occurred as the driver was said to have felt a bit drowsy for a while.

Prahlad Modi is the senior vice-president of the All India Fair Price Shop Dealers' Federation. The 66-year-old younger brother of PM Modi has been with the organisation since its foundation in 2001. He is the fourth of the six children born to Damodardas Modi and Hiraben Modi.

Prahlad Modi, who earlier said he is a member of the BJP, has been a vocal critic of the Centre's policies even after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. Over the years, he has raised several demands and staged dharnas for fair price shop dealers' rights.
