Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Bhutan from Thursday (March 21). The announcement comes days after Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay visited India and extended an invitation to PM Modi to visit Bhutan.
The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan and the government's emphasis on its Neighbourhood First Policy, a statement of Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday.
During the visit, PM Modi will receive audience with Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The prime minister will also hold talks with the Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay.

"India and Bhutan share a unique and enduring partnership which is rooted in mutual trust, understanding and goodwill. Our shared spiritual heritage and warm people to people ties add depth and vibrancy to our exceptional relations," the government statement said.
"The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on bilateral and regional matters of interest and deliberate on ways to expand and intensify our exemplary partnership for the benefit of our peoples," the statement added.
Bhutanese PM Visit To India
Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay arrived in India on a five-day visit last week in his first foreign trip after assuming the charge of the top office in January.
Tobgay held a meeting with Modi in New Delhi on March 14 during the course of which the former extended an invitation to the latter to visit Bhutan.
This was Tobgay’s first official visit abroad after being elected as Prime Minister of his country for the second time in January this year. He held talks with PM Modi focusing on various aspects of "unique and special partnership" between India and Bhutan.
