From being appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001 to now continuing his second term as the Prime Minister of India, PM Narendra Modi has achieved yet another milestone in his political career. PM Modi on October 7, 2020 entered the 20th year of being in a public office as a head of the democratically elected government. On this day 20 years ago, in 2001, Narendra Modi took the oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time. His journey took a complete turn from this very as his leadership had to soon undergo the test of handling the the devastating earthquake which had rocked Bhuj.

As a Chief Minister, he took several steps for the development of the state and in turn, make Gujarat a self-sufficient on several fronts. From the 'Gujarat Model' to 'Gujarat Swarnim Gram E-Broadcast Project', Modi launched several initiatives which played an important role in increasing his popularity across the country. Undoubtedly he became popular across the country.

Since the day he took the command of power, he has not looked back. Modi took oath as Gujarat CM for the second time in 2007 and then for the third time in a row in 2012. He used his three terms as Gujarat Chief Minister to strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party and end the stronghold of Congress party at the Centre.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won a landslide victory. For the first time, BJP got an absolute majority under Modi's leadership. Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for the first time. After this, BJP won an absolute majority for the second consecutive time in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

Modi led NDA completed the first year of the Modi 2.0 government on 31st May, 2020 and the first year of the government was filled with historic decisions that will be remembered by generations. Though the government took some important decisions, there were times when those decisions brought the government in a tight spot.
