Somnath Temple Development Projects: At 11 am on August 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several projects at Somnath Temple in Gujarat via video conferencing. The projects that are to be inaugurated include Somnath Resort, Somnath Exhibition Centre and the renovated temple complex of Old (Juna) Somnath. During the event, Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Parvati temple.


Somnath Promend has been developed to PRASHAD under the "Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Promotion Campaign" scheme at a total cost of over Rs 47 crore. Somnath Exhibition Centre developed in the premises of 'Tourist Facilitation Centre', fragmented parts of old Somnath temple and nagar style architecture of old Somnath was displayed.


The renovated temple complex of Old (Juna) Somnath has been completed by Shri Somnath Trust with a total expenditure of Rs 3.5 crore. This temple is also known as Ahilyabai Temple as it was built by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore. The entire old temple complex was totally redeveloped to protect the pilgrims when they found that the old temple had turned into ruins.


The Sri Parvati Temple is proposed to be constructed at a total outlay of Rs 30 crore. This includes temple construction, sanctum sanctorum and dance mandapa in Sompura Salat style. On the occasion, the Union Home Minister, Union Tourism Minister will be present along with the CM and Deputy CM of Gujarat.
