New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate two additional railway lines connecting Thane and Diva to the nation today through video conference. The inauguration of the new railway projects will be done at 4:30 pm today virtually, PMO said in a statement.

Prime Minister will also flag off two suburban trains of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, followed by his address on the occasion.

Two additional rail lines connecting Thane and Diva have been built at a cost of about Rs 620 crore and include a 1.4 km long rail flyover, three major bridges, 21 minor bridges.

These lines will significantly remove the interference of long-distance train traffic with suburban train traffic in Mumbai. These lines will also enable the introduction of 36 new suburban trains in the city, as per the official statement.

According to the official statement, Kalyan is the main junction of the Central Railway. Traffic coming from the northern and southern parts of the country connects at Kalyan and heads towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM).

Of the four rail routes between Kalyan and CSTM, two tracks were used for slow local trains and two tracks for fast local, mail express, and goods trains. To segregate suburban and long-distance trains, two additional tracks were planned.

With this, 36 new suburban trains will also be run in the city. According to HT, they will facilitate the Railways to launch 80 to 100 more local train services by the year-end, enabling a reduction in the crowds between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Kalyan/Karjat and Kasara, the statement said.
