New Delhi: Amid the unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting to review the Covid-19 and vaccination situation 8 pm on Saturday.


Top officers across various ministries will participate in the meeting as India’s daily new cases continue to rise. 2,34,692 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.



Ten states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, report 79.32 per cent of the new cases.


Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 63,729 followed by Uttar Pradesh with 27,360 while Delhi reported 19,486 new cases.


Earlier in the day, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan chaired a high-level review meeting with the Health Ministers of 11 states/UTs to review the measures taken for prevention, containment and management of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.


Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi interacted through video conferencing with the Governors regarding the Covid-19 situation and ongoing vaccination drive in the country.

The Prime Minister said that “our values and sense of duty are our biggest strengths” in the battle against Covid along with the vaccines.


Praising the citizens who participated in this battle last year considering it their duty, he said that the same feeling of Janbhagidari needs to be encouraged now as well. He said that the role of the Governors, through appropriate utilization of their social capacity, thus becomes all the more critical to achieving this.


"Governors are an important link to ensure better coordination between state governments and society, he said, adding that the combined power of all community organizations, political parties, NGOs and social institutions needs to be harnessed.
