In the wake of the support extended by several global celebrities, including international pop sensation Rihanna, to the farmers’ agitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a thinly veiled jibe at the opposition and certain others while replying to the debate on Motion of Thanks on Presidents address in Rajya Sabha.
In his speech in the parliament, PM Modi said India needs to be aware of a new FDI prevalent today which is the Foreign Destructive Ideology. Asserting India needs to be cautioned against venomous influences from abroad, PM Modi said: “There is also a new FDI which is seen today, that is the Foreign Destructive Ideology. We need to be aware of this.”
Prime Minister Modi further said a new community ‘Andolan jeevi’ (one who thrives on protests) has come up in the country, adding they can be spotted everywhere and are parasites for India.

“We are well aware of terms like ‘buddhi jeevi’ and shram jeevi’ but I am seeing from some time that a new community ‘Andolan jeevi’ has come up in the country. This community can be spotted wherever there is a protest, be it the agitation by lawyers, students or labourers. They can sometimes be seen at the forefront and sometimes behind,” Prime Minister Modi told the Rajya Sabha.
“They cannot live without protests. We need to identify such people and protect the nation from them. They are parasites,” he added while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come as his government has come under sharp criticism from the opposition over global celebrities voicing their support to the farmers agitating against the three farm laws with few even alleging India’s reputation has been hit.
