New Delhi: The street in Delhi on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi lives has been renamed to Lok Kalyan Marg.

The street was earlier known as 7, Race Course Road (RCR).

The proposal in this regard was moved by New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who had earlier written to the government that the current name of the road does not match with the Indian culture.

Last year, Aurangzeb Road was renamed after former president APJ Abdul Kalam.

The change was recommended by BJP's Mahesh Girri, who said that Mughal ruler Aurangzeb was a cruel figure in history and does not deserve to be remembered in this way.

The demand to rename Akbar Road to Maharana Pratap Marg was also raise, but the government overruled the same.
