Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the family of Pahalgam terror victim Shubham Dwivedi on Friday at Chakeri airport in Kanpur, reports news agency PTI. Dwivedi was among the 26 people killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
"The bereaved family members have been apprised about the PMO's decision. Prime Minister Modi will meet Shubham's wife Ashanya and his parents, Sanjay Dwivedi and Seema Dwivedi, at Chakeri airport soon after his special plane lands," Kanpur District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh had told news agency PTI earlier.
After meeting Prime Minister Modi, the wife of Shubham Dwivedi said that PM Modi told her that the entire nation and the government are standing with the family and added that the fight against terrorism has not ended.
"PM Modi said that the entire nation and the government are standing with us. He gave us condolences...PM Modi was very sad...PM Modi asked me about the Pahalgam terror attack...PM Modi said that the fight against terrorism has not ended...PM Modi assured us of another meeting...," said Aishanya Dwivedi as quoted by news agency ANI.
Sanjay Dwivedi, father of Shubham Dwivedi, said that PM Modi had a word with his daughter-in-law Ashanya Dwivedi about the ghastly terror attack since Shubham was shot dead before her and got emotional.
"I think that this incident has pained him a lot. It was a really emotional moment when he was standing with us. I think he will rest only when terrorism ends," the grieving father told ANI.
"I didn't intend to put forward any demands. I wanted to meet him to express my gratitude for the action he has taken against terrorism...PM talked to my daughter-in-law and Shubham about the incident. He got emotional, and everyone else did as well," he added.
Dwivedi, who married on February 12 this year, was visiting Pahalgam with his wife and other family members when terrorists opened fire at the tourists resulting in his death. He was cremated at his native village with full state honours on the morning of April 24. It was attended by Uttar Pradesh Cabinet ministers Yogendra Upadhyay and Rakesh Sachan.
Earlier, Lok Sabha MP from Kanpur Ramesh Awasthi wrote to the PMO requesting PM Modi to meet the family of Shubham Dwivedi.
Awasthi said that in the letter he has sent to the PMO, the family has "thanked PM Modi for Operation Sindoor as it has brought peace to the soul of Shubham Dwivedi and has expressed desire to thank the prime minister for that".
Dwivedi's widow Aishanya on Saturday said, "We have requested Lok Sabha MP from Kanpur Ramesh Awasthi to coordinate with the PMO for a meeting with the prime minister."
