On the occasion of 'Vishwakarma Jayanti', Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce a new initiative called "PM Vishwakarma" to assist artists, craftsmen, and others involved in traditional skills on Sunday, September 17, news agency PTI reported. On September 17, the prime minister will turn 73 years old. According to a statement, Modi has made it a priority to help individuals involved in traditional crafts not just monetarily, but also to maintain the age-old tradition, culture, and unique heritage alive and flourishing via local goods, art, and crafts.
The initiative, which Modi initially promised on Independence Day, will be entirely supported by the Union government with a Rs 13,000 crore investment. Prospective beneficiaries would be enrolled for free through common service centres utilising the biometric-based PM Vishwakarma site under the plan.
According to the statement, the scheme's targeted beneficiaries will receive recognition through the PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, skill upgradation involving basic and advanced training, a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, collateral-free credit support up to Rs lakh (first tranche) and 2 lakh (second tranche) at a 5% concessional interest rate, incentive for digital transactions, and marketing support.
The plan also intends to develop and maintain the "Guru-Shishya parampara," or family-based practise of ancient skills, according to the statement.
The scheme's primary goal is to improve the quality and reach of artisans' and craftspeople's goods and services, as well as to assure their integration into local and global value chains, according to the statement.
The initiative would help craftsmen and craftspeople in both rural and urban locations across India. Carpenters, boat builders, armourers, blacksmiths, hammer and tool kit makers, locksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, sculptors, stone-breakers, cobblers, masons, basket/mat/broom makers and coir weavers, doll and toy makers, barbers, garland makers, washer men; tailors, and fishing net makers will be included.
PM Modi To Launch ‘YashoBhoomi’ At Dwarka On Sunday
On September 17, 2023, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate 'YashoBhoomi' to the country at Dwarka.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the expansion of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new metro station in Dwarka Sector 25.
The operationalization of Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) dubbed 'Yashobhomi' in Dwarka would support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's objective of having a world-class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences, and exhibits in the country, according to the official statement.
"With a total project area of over 8.9 lakh square metre and total built up area of more than 1.8 lakh square metre, YashoBhoomi will find its place among the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities. The Convention Center, built across more than 73 thousand square metres of area, comprises 15 convention rooms including the Main auditorium, the Grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms with a total capacity of holding 11,000 delegates. The Convention centre has the largest LED media facade in the country," reads the official statement.
With the opening of the new Dwarka Sector 25 metro station, YashoBhoomi will be linked to the Delhi Airport Metro Express line.
The operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line will be increased from 90 to 120 km/hr, cutting travel time. The whole travel time from New Delhi to YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 is around 21 minutes.
