NEW DELHI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi undertook the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the first week of September but many on social media sites, including prominent personalities, are questioning if he actually went there or not.

Gandhi, who has often talked about being a devotee of Lord Shiva, had said during a rally in Karnataka that the desire to undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra arose when his plane plunged hundreds of feet in the air while he was travelling for poll campaign in Karnataka. The plane dipped steeply with violent shuddering, but soon recovered and landed safely.

In the viral photographs, it is claimed that INC Chief Rahul Gandhi is downloading photographs off of the internet and is posting it on social media sites.

Gandhi, had tweeted: "The waters of lake Mansarovar are so gentle, tranquil and calm. They give everything and lose nothing. Anyone can drink from them. There is no hatred here. This is why we worship these waters in India."

He had also attached pictures of the Mansarovar lake and Kailash mountain.

Priti Gandhi, National In-Charge of Social Media of BJP Mahila Morcha, tweeted the same image shared by Vikas Pandey. Priti, in her tweet, asked Rahul Gandhi, "Are you downloading pics from the internet and tweeting? Are you really at Mansarovar or some place else?"

Here it is to be noted that the details of his visit have been kept under wraps due to security reasons. The pilgrimage to Mt Kailash, considered the abode of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology, is organised every year between June and September.

To investigate the matter, ABP News started its research.
