The Maharashtra political developments are deepening with every passing moment as the battle within Pawars is set to intensify in the same manner it did when the Shiv Sena fell apart. A year after Shinde's one step set the battleground for the fight of real Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar has played the same masterstroke. While both, Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar claim to have the support of the majority of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLAs, no concrete numbers have come from any of the sides.
Meanwhile, a slew of meetings are on the cards including the Maharashtra cabinet meet, Uddhav faction leaders' meet, NCP (Sharad Pawar) meeting and Congress huddle on the recent developments. Here are the top points on the ongoing political confusion in the state:
10 Points On Maharashtra Political Crisis
- Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar and other ministers have reached state assembly for the cabinet meeting.
- Sharad Pawar is likely to hold the meeting of the leaders supporting his faction of the NCP on Tuesday in Mumbai. The challenge is to have control over the party.
- Dilip Mohite Patil, one of the supporting MLAs of Ajit Pawar who participated in the swearing-in ceremony, has taken a U-turn. He said that he does not agree with the step taken by Ajit Pawar without informing and took the signatures of the MLAs. Another MLA, MLA Makrand Patil, who was in the oath ceremony, was seen in Sharad Pawar's car.
- Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) has also called a meeting of MLAs on Tuesday to discuss the current situation. Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar along with 18 MLAs has extended support to the Shinde government. The leaders have arrived at 'Matoshree' for the meeting.
- Meanwhile, Congress has also called a meeting at the party office in Vidhan Bhavan. Balasaheb Thorat, Vishwajeet Kadam, Yashomati Thakur, Atul Londhe, Nana Patole, Brother Jagtap, Prithviraj Chavan and in-charge HK Patil are taking part in the meeting.
- Discussions will be held on claiming the Leader of the Opposition post in the Legislative Assembly, on staying in MVA and further role in current events. After the meeting, HK Patil will go to Delhi with the report.
- Amid all the chaos, newly sworn-in Deputy CM Ajit Pawar is all set to inaugurate a new NCP office near Mantralaya in Mumbai.
- Reacting to this, NCP leader (Sharad Pawar faction) Clyde Crasto said: "Prafull Patel and Ajit Pawar are mature politicians. They know the rules and regulations very well. Despite knowing it, if they do things like this then what can we say? As per Constitution, as per 10th Schedule, as per Anti defection law, as per our party's constitution, they can't do any of this. Our party president Sharad Pawar appointed a few people yesterday. So, where will the validity be?"
- On the NCP crisis, Clyde Crasto said: "A lot of things will start now. They are throwing legalities on us so we have to do our things. The process has begun. We have to follow up on what they do because at the NCP is Sharad Pawar, the clock symbol is Sharad Pawar and he is still the active president of the party..."
- Union Minister Anurag Thakur reacted to the ongoing developments and said: "Several political parties want to join NDA for the development of the country and NCP has initiated this. I have faith that the NCP joining the Maharashtra cabinet will help in the development of the state. Keeping the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in mind, these political parties joining NDA will provide a strong and stable government in the Centre for the development of the country."
