The Indian Parliament is set to resume its Winter Session from December 1 to December 19, 2025, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Saturday, November 8.
“The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, has approved the government’s proposal to convene the Winter Session of Parliament from 1st December to 19th December 2025, subject to exigencies of parliamentary business,” Mr. Rijiju confirmed in a post on X.
He added, “Looking forward to a constructive and meaningful session that strengthens our democracy and addresses the aspirations of the people.”
The announcement comes after a relatively turbulent Monsoon Session, which concluded on August 21, 2025. During that month-long sitting, the Lok Sabha passed 12 bills while the Rajya Sabha approved 14, but much of the session was overshadowed by disruptions.
The Monsoon Session, which began on July 21, 2025, was largely affected by repeated adjournments. Opposition members had initially demanded a discussion on Operation Sindoor, and later pressed for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision exercise in Bihar, leaving little room for other parliamentary business.
Last year’s Winter Session had been equally eventful, marked by intense debates and high-stakes confrontations. Lawmakers discussed the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, witnessed a no-confidence motion against then Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and faced an Opposition notice seeking the impeachment of an Allahabad High Court judge. The session concluded with a heated confrontation over the alleged insult of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution.
