Over 100 Flights Delayed, 267 Trains Cancelled As Dense Fog Reduces Visibility Across North India

Several Delhi-bound flights were diverted to Jaipur due to poor visibility as the cold wave continues to give chills to several states of north India, including the national capital.

New Delhi: Around 118 departure and 32 arrival flights have been delayed to poor visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Northern Railway informed that train services are also affected due to the dense fog as a total of 267 trains were cancelled today.

ANI reported citing Railways officials that till 11 am, a total of 170 trains were running late and out of 170 trains, 91 trains were running late due to weather conditions.

Three Delhi-bound flights have been diverted to Jaipur fog continues to hit the visibility in the national capital, reported ANI citing airport officials.

Reduced visibility was recorded across north India on Monday with several areas recording as low as zero metre visibility. 

At around 8:30 am on Monday, according to IMD, Punjab's Bhatinda and UP's Agra recorded zero metre visibility while Palam in Delhi, Lucknow and Bahraich in UP recorded maximum visibility up to 50 metres.

Mercury continues to dip in the region as well with Haryana's Narnaul recording a minimum temperature of 2.4 degrees Celsius today, ANI mentioned citing IMD.

Safdarjung in Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius and Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius, it said.

Earlier, chilling cold and heavy fog resulted in low visibility of as low as zero metre at several places. The national capital Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius and reduced visibility at prime locations in the city including ITO, Barapullah and Dhaula Kuan.

A satellite image released by the IMD, a fog layer extended from Punjab and adjoining northwest Rajasthan to Bihar across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
