KALABURAGI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday escalated his attack on the Opposition saying it was trying to remove him, while he was trying to eliminate terrorism, poverty and corruption. "The person who has the blessings of 125 crore people... why should he fear anybody, be it Hindustan, Pakistan, thieves or the dishonest. India and 125 crore people have given this strength," Modi said while addressing a public meeting in Karnataka's Kalaburagi.
"The world is witnessing a new kind of courage. It is not Modi's but of 125 crore people of India," he said, referring to the Indian Air Force's air strikes on a terror camp in Pakistan on February 26.
Calling the "Mahaghatbandhan" (grand alliance of opposition parties) a "mahamilavat" (high adulteration), he said the country wants a strong government.
Karnataka has a "helpless" government and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is a "remote-controlled CM". The Congress-JD(S) alliance had come to power by "backstabbing people", he alleged.
Modi termed Karnataka's coalition government as "anti-farmer" and said the Congress and JDS made "false" promises of farm loan waiver to seek votes in the Assembly election.
Accusing the state government of doing injustice to farmers, he said it was not cooperating in the implementation of "Pradhan Mantri Kissan Samman Nidhi" scheme. "If the state tries to create a wall, the farmers of the state will demolish it," Modi said.
The remote controlled chief minister of Karnataka has not sent the list of eligible farmers to the Centre. They are blocking the benefits of PM-KISAN to reach the farmers as there is no middlemen in our scheme and money directly reaches the farmers in their bank accounts."
The PM Kisan scheme announced in this year's Union Budget provides direct annual income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three installments to 12 crore small and marginal farmers in the country.
The Karnataka government maintains that of the Rs 48,000 crore farm loans it announced to waive in June last year, loans worth Rs 1,611-crore taken by 3.28 lakh farmers had been waived till January 31.
Modi also said that development of the Northeast was a top priority for his government.
"It is my privilege that the NDA government has got the opportunity to work extensively for the Northeast. We have put top priority for the development of the Northeast," he said.
