New Delhi: With a huge surge in Coronavirus cases, India has reported 16,764 new cases on Friday. The country has registered 7,585 recoveries and 220 deaths in the last 24 hours.


India has surpassed the 1000-mark of Omicron cases as the total tally of the highly transmissible variant now stands at 1,270.


The active caseload in the country currently stands at 91,361. India currently has a recovery rate 98.36%.



Maharashtra


Maharashtra government has recorded a surge in Omicron cases on Thursday. The state has registered 198 new cases of the Omicron variant, including 190 in Mumbai alone, taking the tally of cases of this latest coronavirus variant in the state up to 450.


Maharashtra recorded 5,368 coronavirus cases on Thursday, a spike of 1468 cases from a day before. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 66,70,754.

At present, there are 18,217 active cases in the state. With 1193 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of those recovered rose to 65,07,330. 


Maharashtra Government has capped the attendance at gatherings in open or closed spaces at 50, following a surge in coronavirus cases in the state, according to PTI.

Not more than 100 persons in enclosed spaces and 250 persons in open spaces were allowed to attend a marriage function or a social, cultural, political and religious gathering earlier.

The state government issued fresh guidelines on Thursday night, capping the number of attendees at these events to 50 persons.

The new order also stipulates that only 20 persons can attend last rites.


Gujarat


Gujarat reported 573 new cases of coronavirus during the last 24 hours, taking the tally of positive cases in the state to 8,31,078, the health department said in a release on Thursday evening.

In good news, no new case of the Omicron variant was reported in the state.

On Wednesday, daily coronavirus cases in Gujarat had crossed the 500-mark for the first time after over six months.

Two COVID-19 patients also succumbed to the infection on Thursday, taking the death toll to 10,118.

The tally of recoveries went up to 8,18,589 with 102 persons getting discharged during the day, the release said, adding that of total 2,371 active cases, 11 patients are on ventilator. So far, 97 cases of Omicron strain have been reported in Gujarat. Of these, 44 infected persons have recovered, including three on Thursday, while 53 are still under treatment.
