Odisha Train Accident: As Unclaimed Bodies Pile Up, Details Of Victims Released On These Govt Websites — Check List

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced free bus service to Kolkata from Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack till the restoration of normal train services on the Balasore route.

The Odisha government has appealed to the families of the deceased in the triple train accident to identify and claim the bodies. For the purpose, the state government has uploaded the information of the deceased on the official website of the special relief commissioner at srcodisha.nic.in (disclaimer: the details contain visuals that can be disturbing, discretion advised). “There are still a number of bodies yet to be claimed in various morgues. State Government is appealing to next of kin from different states to identify and claim the bodies,” said the state government. 

A list of websites for details of passengers undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Odisha has also been released by the government, though at the time of writing this report, the hospital-wise list was yet to be uploaded, which the government said would be done later.

The Municipal Commissioner office in Bhubaneswar has established a control room, from where, with vehicles, people will be directed to either hospital or mortuary as the case may be, it said, adding officials have been deployed to facilitate.

The BMC has also issued a helpline number, 1929.

Helpdesks have been put up at all entry points including Cuttack Railway Station, Bustand and SCB Medical College and Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Baramunda Bus stand and Airport.

275 people were reported dead and over a thousand injured after three trains — Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, SMVT Bengaluru–Howrah SF Express, and a freight train — collided after Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday night.
