New Delhi: Days after a video surfaced online where BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi could be seen threatening and assaulting a resident of Grand Omaxe housing complex in Noida's Sector 93, some of his supporters entered the society on Sunday night after which seven of them were arrested and were being interrogated, said the police, reported news agency ANI. 


“Seven people who entered the Grand Omaxe Society have been arrested and are being interrogated. It was found that there was negligence from SHO Phase 2, Central Noida Sujeet Upadhyay, who has been suspended, further investigation is underway,” said Noida Police Commissioner Alok Singh. 


The family has been provided with security and added that action will be taken against Tyagi under the Gangster Act and “all his illegal property will be identified”, Singh said further.



Following the incident, Gautambuddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma also flung into action and dialled Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary Awanish Awasthi informing him about the situation. He also assured police protection to the victim. “We've informed Awanish Awasthi, the way unidentified people entered society is not at all right. Police protection will be given to the lady within 2 hrs,” said the BJP MP. 



The video which was shared by Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair showed Tyagi arguing with the woman after she objected to plantation of some trees by him, citing violation of rules.Tyagi, who is also a national executive member of the BJP Kisan Morcha, is also seen pushing the woman and abusing her as the matter comes to a boil. Other residents are then seen pulling the woman back.


Later he was booked by the Noida Police under Indian Penal Code section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty)," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety) Ankita Sharma told PTI.
