New Delhi: Tightening the noose around 'dhaba' owners serving liquor, the Excise Department of Delhi government has directed them to put up sign boards clearly stating that ‘drinking is not allowed in the premises’ failing which they will be slapped with a penalty of Rs 10,000.

A senior government official said the move comes after numbers of people registered their complaints about dhabas serving liquor in their premises which are in violation of laid down rules.

"All the dhabawalas are directed to put sign board in their premises at a point where the same will easily be visible to the customers. The sign board should contain 'Drinking of liquor is not permitted in the premises," the official also said.

"Serving liquor in premises of dhaba is illegal. We will soon launch a drive to check installation of such sign boards and if owners of dhabas do not comply with the rules, strict action will be taken against them," official further said.

The department had recently taken action against marriage and banquet halls for serving Haryana-made liquor which is illegal in the national capital
