Srinagar: Former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah-led People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD or Gupkar Alliance) has said that assembly elections should be held only after full statehood is restored. The coalition said that the BJP-led central government should honour its promise made in the Parliament on this subject.
PAGD spokesperson and CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami said in the statement: "As far as full statehood of J&K is concerned, it was promised by the BJP in the Parliament and they should honour their word."
"PAGD has decided to talk to other political parties of J&K so that a common stand can be made on this issue," he said. On Sunday evening, a meeting of the Gupkar alliance was held under the chairmanship of National Conference President Farooq Abdullah at his residence.
The meeting was attended by the coalition's vice president and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, Tarigami, National Conference leader Hasnain Masoodi, People's Movement chief Javed Mustafa Mir, and Awami National Conference senior vice president Muzaffar Ahmed Shah. The spokesman said that this meeting was called to discuss the all-party meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi in Delhi on June 24.
