New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has rubbished media reports stating that it hailed the Taliban’s capture of Afghanistan.

“All India Muslim Personal Law Board has neither expressed any view nor given any statement on Taliban and recent political situation of Afghanistan,” the AIMPLB tweeted.

The AIMPLB also criticized the media for portraying the opinion of some board members as its stand.

“Opinion of some Board members has been portrayed as Board's stand by few media channels and wrong thing is being attributed to the Board. These practices are against the spirit of journalism,” the AIMPLB posted on the micro-blogging platform.

“Media Channels must refrain themselves from such acts and no news regarding Taliban should be attributed to the @AIMPLB_OFFICIAL,” the AIMPLB said in a series of tweets.

The controversy took place as AIMPLB member Sajjad Nomani had earlier praised the Taliban for capturing Afghanistan.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq had also supported the regime change in Afghanistan.

Barq said the Taliban is fighting for the freedom of their country and added the Afghan people want freedom under its leadership.

“When India was under British rule, our country fought for freedom. Now Taliban wants to free their country and run it. Taliban is a force that did not allow even strong countries like Russia and US to settle in their country,” ANI quoted Barq as saying.
