The 2024 poll bugle was sounded on Tuesday after like-minded Opposition parties came up with a new name for their alliance while the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance held its first meeting in view of the upcoming general elections. While 26 Opposition parties came together in Karnataka’s Bengaluru to form Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), the NDA held a meeting with 38 of its members with some old and new constituents. 


Furthering the acronym game, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the allies, said “NDA stands for 'New India', 'Developed Nation', and 'Aspirations of People'. Today, the poor, middle class, youth, women, tribals all trust NDA."


Among the existing constituents of NDA are Bharatiya Janata Party, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Pattali Makkal Katchi, Apna Dal (Sonelal), Asom Gana Parishad, All Jharkhand Students Union. 


Following the political crisis in Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra, the Shinde faction and Ajit Pawar faction respectively were present in today’s NDA meeting. Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha and Pashupati Kumar Paras’s Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party were also in attendance. 


Notably, many regional parties from the north east like Naga People's Front, Mizo National Front, Kuki People's Alliance (Manipur), Hill State People's Democratic Party are now part of the incumbent alliance.
