New Delhi: After a purported video, showing noted hair stylist Jawed Habib spitting on a woman's head while styling her hair, went viral on the social media, the National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognizance of the matter and asked the Uttar Pradesh Police to probe the veracity of the video.


The incident took place at a workshop that was being conducted by Habib in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.


In the video that went viral, it can be seen that the woman concerned is sitting on a chair in the middle of the stage and stylist Jawed Habib, while giving tips to the audience on hair styling, casually spits on the woman’s head and says that saliva can be an alternative in absence of water while cutting of hair. The audience can also be heard laughing and clapping at the incident.






Taking note of the video, the National Commission for Women, in a tweet wrote, “@NCWIndia has taken cognizance of the incident. Chairperson @sharmarekha has written to @dgpup to immediately investigate the veracity of this viral video and take appropriate action. The action taken must be apprised to the Commission at the earliest.”


After the video of the incident went viral, the woman concerned, Pooja Gupta, owner of a beauty parlour, also took to Twitter to recount her experience, where she said, “Yesterday, I attended a workshop of Jawed Habib. He invited me on the stage to give me a haircut. He said if there is no water, you can use saliva. From now onwards, I will go to my streetside barber for a haircut, but will not go to Habib.”
