New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated wrestler Sakshi Malik who clinched bronze on Wednesday to give India its first medal at the on going Olympics in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro.
"India's daughter Sakshi Malik has earned a new strength and respect for Tricolour on occasion of Raksha Bandhan. I extend my heartiest wishes and congratulations to India's daughter," Modi said after laying the foundation stone of the new party office in Delhi.

Sakshi, 23, brought an end to India's long medal wait, when every hopeful had failed one by one.
"Sakshi Malik creates history! Congratulations to her for the Bronze. The entire nation is rejoicing," the Prime Minister tweeted in morning.
In another tweet, the prime minister said: "On this very auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, Sakshi Malik, a daughter of India, wins a Bronze & makes all of us very proud."
Sakshi clinched the bronze in the Women's Freestyle 58kg category with a spirited comeback victory over Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan.
