Ajmer: Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday offered a 'chadar' at the 'dargah' of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 807th Urs. Modi said in his message: "Harmonious coexistence of different religions, communities, beliefs and faith in India is the beauty of our country. Various Saints, Pir and Fakirs in our country have given message of peace, unity and harmony time to time. They have played a key role in spreading message of discipline, decency and self- restraint." He hailed Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti as a symbol of great spiritual traditions of India.

Naqvi also read out a message sent by the Prime Minister and then posted pictures from the occasion through his Twitter handle.

"Offered 'Chadar' on behalf of PM ... at dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on 807th Urs at Ajmer Sharif. Also read out message of the Prime Minister in which he conveyed greetings and best wishes to followers of Khwaja Sahab in India and abroad,"the minister tweeted.

"While on one hand PM believes in legacy of Sufi saints to protect human values and justice, on the other hand he is a 'nationalistic warrior' against terrorism. Modi has adopted 'zero tolerance' policy against terrorism," the Minister tweeted.

"India’s spiritual and Sufi culture is the guarantee of ensuring humanity and peace by defeating and demolishing terrorism and all other forms of violence,"his accompanying tweet read.

Asserting that India is in safe hands, Naqvi further tweeted that, "There will be no compromise with the security of the country and its people under the strong and able leadership of PM Shri Narnedra Modi."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday had handed over the 'chadar' to be offered at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. "Handed over a 'Chadar' that would be presented at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the 807th Urs in the coming days," the prime minister had tweeted.

A delegation comprising heads of both 'anjumans' of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah and the Ajmer Sharif Dargah Committee on Saturday had met Modi, who handed them over the 'chadar', in presence of Naqvi. The delegation welcomed the prime minister with 'dastarbandi' and prayed for the country's peace, safety, harmony, a statement from the delegation said.

Naqvi has in the past been offering the chadar on the prime minister's behalf. Modi had previously said "Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti is a symbol of the great spiritual traditions of India".

Thousands of pilgrims arrive for the Urs here every year. The shrine is revered by both Muslims and Hindus.
