New Delhi: N Biren Singh will take oath as the Chief Minister of Manipur at 3 pm today. This will be his second term as the Manipur CM. 


Biren Singh was unanimously elected as the new Chief Minister of the state for the second term after the Manipur BJP State Legislature meeting was held in Imphal on Sunday. 




"It is a good decision taken unanimously by everyone. It will ensure that Manipur has a stable & responsible govt which will build further because the Centre today under the leadership of PM Modi gives special attention to Northeastern states," said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

 

Sitharaman and Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju, who is the co-observer, arrived at Imphal earlier on Sunday to attend the meeting of the newly-elected BJP MLAs in Manipur.

Union Labour Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Manipur's titular king, and BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, and party national spokesperson Sambit Patra also flew in for the crucial meet.


The BJP had registered its victory on 32 out of 60 Assembly seats of Manipur in the recent polls, followed by National People’s Party which won seven seats, Congress and Naga People’s Front bagged five seats, Kuki People’s Alliance secured two seats while three seats were won by independent candidates. 


State BJP leaders Biren Singh who won from Heingang constituency and Biswajit Singh who won from Thongju constituency were being seen as frontrunners for the Chief Minister’s post in the state. Both the leaders visited Delhi on Saturday in two separate flights to meet the party's central leaders, news agency PTI had reported.
