Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sorrow at the passing away of MS Swaminathan, the Father of India's Green Revolution, adding that his work "in agriculture transformed the lives of millions and ensured food security for our nation." MS Swaminathan passed away at the age on 98 years in Chennai on Thursday.


In a series of tweets, PM Modi said, "Deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. MS Swaminathan Ji. At a very critical period in our nation’s history, his groundbreaking work in agriculture transformed the lives of millions and ensured food security for our nation." 


"Beyond his revolutionary contributions to agriculture, Dr. Swaminathan was a powerhouse of innovation and a nurturing mentor to many. His unwavering commitment to research and mentorship has left an indelible mark on countless scientists and innovators," he added.


Recalling his interactions with MS Swaminathan, PM Modi said, "I will always cherish my conversations with Dr. Swaminathan. His passion to see India progress was exemplary. His life and work will inspire generations to come. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

On MS Swaminathan's demise, AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said, "I am deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Dr MS Swaminathan garu, the father of India’s Green Revolution. His dedication and commitment to feeding the nation transformed agriculture in India. In current times, when the thrust needs to be on increasing production to meet growing consumption, Dr Swaminathan’s work and legacy will continue to guide and inspire all of us."

 

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said, "Deeply saddened to know about the passing away of eminent agricultural scientist and father of Indian Green Revolution #MSSwaminathan. His immense contribution in the field of agriculture, food security and tireless efforts to boost farmers’ income will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family members at this hour of grief. #OmShanti."

 

MP Rahul Gandhi said, "Dr. MS Swaminathan's steadfast commitment to revolutionising India's agriculture turned us into a food surplus country."

"His legacy as the Father of the Green Revolution will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences go out to his loved ones during this time of loss," he said.




Party leaders also remembered the remarkable works of MS Swaminathan and expressed their condolences to the family members.
