Bhopal: Following High Court order, Madhya Pradesh government has cancelled the allocation of bungalows to former Chief Ministers of the state. Kailash Joshi, Uma Bharti, Digvijaya Singh and Babulal Gaur will now have to vacate their bungalows.

Digvijaya and Uma had themselves expressed their intent of vacating the bungalows.

The order came after Jabalpur High court had directed the Shivraj government to get former Chief Minister bungalows emptied in one month’s time. The court had stated the lifetime provision of giving government houses and services to former CMs as ‘unconstitutional’.

Earlier a petition was filed in the court which stated that state’s former Chief Minister’s have been ‘unlawfully residing in government houses’.

In a similar order, the apex court had directed former Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh to vacate government bungalows.

Questions are also being raised on life-time provision of government houses to former CMs in Rajasthan. The matter was also heard in Rajasthan High Court.
