New Delhi: Spiritual leader Morari Bapu who is known for narrating ‘Ram Katha’ was attacked by a former BJP MLA Pabubha Manek in Dwarka, Gujarat. According to reports, Manek was incensed about some statements made by Bapu about the Hindu god Krishna during one of his storytelling sessions. The BJP leader was stopped by an MP of his own party.

Morari Bapu is known for his discourse on the epic poem Ramcharitmanas also known as ‘Ram Katha’.His belief in taking the spiritual discourse to people from marginalized communities and exploited sections of the society such as sex workers have also come under scrutiny.  In 2018 he organized a Ram Kath for sex workers in Ayodhya which was objected by many Hindu spiritual leaders.

Recently he courted controversy when a video from one of his sessions went viral in which he made remarks about Lord Krishna and his brother Balram which were considered objectionable. A furor erupted about his statements and he travelled to Dwarka, Gujarat to apologise for his statements. It was during this visit that the MLA tried to attack him. The incident was also caught on video and Manek can be seen charging at Bapu who is sitting along with other people. He was immediately stopped by party workers who then led him away from Bapu.

When questioned about his attack Manek said, "I did not attack Morari Bapu in any way." I just want to know on what basis he made a comment about Balram ji. "He further added," If someone comments on Hinduism, why won’t you get angry? I just wanted to question Morari Bapu.”
