Monsoon has hit several states across the country with rain continuously lashing parts of Delhi, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Rajasthan among others. Senior scientist in India Meteorology Department (IMD), Dr. Naresh Kumar, said that the monsoon is in its advanced stage and is active. He said that in the coming few days heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat, Konkan Goa, East and Northeast.
"Monsoon is in its advanced stage and is active. In the coming two days, Madhya Pradesh may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. More than 12 cm of rain is expected in MP," Kumar told news agency ANI.
He further said, "We are expecting extremely heavy rainfall (more than 20 cm) in parts of South Gujarat and Konkan Goa today. East and Northeast India is expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next five days."
As for the weather, rains lashed parts of Delhi on Thursday morning. The weather department has predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi, NCR including Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Manesar. IMD added that the city is expected to experience a cloudy sky with light to moderate rain and thundershowers on Thursday.
"Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of many places of Delhi, NCR ( Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar)," the weatherman said.
It further said, "Gannaur, Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad (Haryana) Saharanpur, Baraut, Bagpat, Khekra, Modinagar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Sikandrabad (U.P.) . Light intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of Shamli, Muzaffarnagar."
The weather body predicted that heavy rainfall intensity is likely to continue on 29th as well and is likely to decrease gradually from 30th.
Meanwhile, rain lashed parts of Chandigarh. As per IMD, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely over the parts of Tricity (Chandigarh, SAS Nagar (Mohali) and Panchkula) and adjoining areas on Thursday.
Waterlogging was witnessed in several parts of Navsari, Gujarat due to heavy rainfall in the region. IMD said that heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli districts of the Gujarat region on Thursday.
