New Delhi: After a grenade blast in Mohali created chaos in the city, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, leader of the banned organisation 'Sikhs for Justice' has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to ABP News sources, the SFJ leader said even issued a threat saying that the group's next target is Himachal Pradesh. This comes two days after Pannun was booked under the stringent anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for placing banners and graffiti related to Khalistan in Himachal Pradesh Assembly in Dharamshala.
Sikhs for Justice was banned by the centre in 2019 for anti-India activities.
Sources also said that the banned Khalistani organisation launched the attack to register their presence and arms were transported to the city via drug dealers.
An explosion was reported in Mohali on Monday night after a rocket-propelled grenade hit the headquarters of the Punjab Police Intelligence Wing, shattering windowpanes on one of the floors of the building. No one, however, was injured in the explosion.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the investigation into the matter is underway and those who are trying to disturb the peace in the state will not be spared.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said the perpetrators of the crime will not be spared.
"Blast in Mohali is unfortunate however the situation is under control, the matter is being investigated, the perpetrators of the crime will not be spared, and nobody will be allowed to fiddle with hard-earned peace and harmony. An uneasiness of anti-Punjab forces is understandable", said Kang in a tweet.
Himachal Pradesh On Alert after Sikhs For Justice installed 'Khalistan' banners at state assembly
Himachal Police stepped up security in the state after Sikhs for Justice gave a call for holding a 'Khalistan' referendum on June 6. Inter-state borders have been sealed and security stepped at key government buildings.
"Keeping in view the incidents of Khalistani elements in neighboring States and also the incident of tying a Khalistani banner took place in Una district on 11.04.2022 and recent incident of hoisting banners & graffiti of Khalistan on the outer boundary of Vidhan Sabha in Dharamshala as well as the threat posed by Sikhs for Justice (SJF) regarding the announcement of 6th June, 2022 as the voting date for Khalistan Referendum in Himachal Pradesh, the DGP-HP has issued directions to the field formations to remain on high alert from today," an order issued by state police chief Sanjay Kundu said to ANI.
