New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to his home state, Gujarat starting today where he will address the Khadi Utsav at Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad at around 5:30 pm. On Sunday, tomorrow, PM Modi will visit Bhuj where he will inaugurate Smriti Van Memorial and lay foundation stone and inaugurate various developmental projects. Later, he will address a programme in Gandhinagar commemorating the 40 years of Suzuki in India. 


PM Modi’s Ahmedabad Visit: Khadi Utsav 


In line with the promotion of Khadi and its products in the country, a Khadi Utsav has been organised at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad to pay tribute to the fabric and its significance during the freedom struggle. The event will witness 7500 women khadi artisans from various districts of Gujarat spinning charkha live at the same time and in the same place. 




An exhibition showcasing the “Evolution of Charkhas” will also be put up displaying 22 Charkhas from different generations used since the 1920s. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the new office building of the Gujarat Rajya Khadi Gramodyog Board and a foot-over bridge at Sabarmati.


“It has been a constant endeavour of the Prime Minister to popularise Khadi, generate awareness about Khadi products and promote the use of Khadi amongst youth. As a result of the efforts of the Prime Minister, since 2014, the sale of Khadi in India has witnessed a four-fold increase, whereas in Gujarat, the sale of Khadi has witnessed a massive eight-fold increase,” read the official press release by the Prime Minister’s Office.


PM Modi’s Bhuj Visit


The next stop in PM Modi’s 2-day Gujarat visit will be Bhuj where he will inaugurate Smriti Van Memorial on August 28. The memorial, built in an area of around 270 acres, will “celebrate the spirit of resilience shown by the people after the death of around 13,000 people who had lost their lives during the 2001 earthquake which had its epicentre in Bhuj.” The Memorial carries the names of the people who had lost their lives during the earthquake.


The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs 4400 crore in Bhuj. He will inaugurate the Kachchh Branch Canal of the Sardar Sarovar Project. 


Various other projects that the PM will inaugurate include the New Automatic Milk Processing and Packing Plant of Sarhad Dairy; Regional Science Centre, Bhuj; Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre at Gandhidham; Veer Bal Smarak at Anjar; Bhuj 2 Substation at Nakhatrana etc. 


PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of various projects worth over Rs. 1500 crores as well, including the Bhuj- Bhimasar Road.


PM Modi’s Visit To Gandhinagar


From Bhuj, PM Modi will visit Gandhinagar where he will address a programme marking the commemoration of 40 years of Suzuki in India, being held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar.


During the event, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones of two key projects of the Suzuki group in India - the Suzuki Motor Gujarat Electric Vehicle Battery Manufacturing Facility at Hansalpur, Gujarat and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming vehicle manufacturing facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana.
